Somme & Ypres Tour - 5 nights

This tour combines all of the elements of both the Somme and Ypres tours. A little more intensive as this tour is 5 nights as opposed to the combined total of 6 nights for the individual Somme and Ypres tours. Slightly earlier starts and finishes ensures nothing is missed!


 

Day 1

Morning departure to France by ferry or Eurotunnel

Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux.

Check into our accomodation.

Day 2

After breakfast, leave the hotel and head to Beaumont Hamel where we'll spend the morning visiting:

Serre Road No 2 Cemetery
Beaumont Hamel British Cemetery,
Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders memorial
The Sunken Lane
View where the Hawthorn Ridge mine footage was filmed from
Newfoundland Memorial Park 
 

After Lunch: 

Ulster Tower Memorial
Thiepval Memorial
Lochnagar Crater
Ovillers British Cemetery
 
End of day 2 and back to the hotel.

Day 3

Leave the hotel after breakfast and drive to Albert where we will visit the Somme 14-18 museum

Dartmoor British Cemetery
Welsh Memorial at Memetz Wood
Caterpillar Valley Cemetery
 

Day 4

Breakfast and check out of the hotel. We'll then drive to:

Vimy Ridge Canadian Memorial
Notre Dame de Lorette French Cemetery-the largest French Military cemetery in the world where the remains of over 40,000 soldiers lie.


Lunch then in the Afternoon: 

South African Memorial and museum at Delville Wood
New Zealand Forces Memorial
Australian 1st Division memorial and Tank Corps Memorial at Pozieres
 
End of day 3

 


Lunch The Afternoon: 

Leave the Somme area for Ypres
Messines Ridge Cemetery and museum
Talbot House museum
Brandhoeck Cemetery and the grave of the only double VC winner of WW1-Captain Noel Chavasse

Check in to hotel

Day 5

Breakfast then the short drive to the 49th (West Riding) Division memorial and Essex Farm Advanced Dressing Station-the site where John McCrae wrote one of the most famous poems of the Great War “In Flanders Fields”.
The Remainder of the Morning:

Railway Wood and the Royal Engineer’s memorial and the Liverpool Scottish memorial stone
Hill 62 museum and preserved trenches
Hooge Crater Cemetery and museum followed by lunch in the museum cafe.

Day 6

Check out of hotel

The Morning: 
“In Flanders Fields” museum
Passchendaele Museum

Return home late afternoon by ferry or Eurotunnel


The Afternoon: 

Polygon Wood
Buttes New British Cemetery
New Zealand memorial
5th Australian Division memorial
Canadian memorial “The Brooding Soldier”
Langemark German Cemetery
Tyne Cot Visitor centre and cemetery

Return to hotel
2000  Last post ceremony at the Menin gate
